The Core Update
Apple has introduced native multiseat purchasing for auto-renewable subscriptions. Organizations using Apple Business or Apple School Manager can now acquire bulk seats for your application through a single transaction. These seats are manageable via standard device management frameworks, allowing admins to provision or revoke access dynamically. Official Source: Apple AnnouncementTechnical Impact & Mechanism
This update shifts your subscription logic from individual user IDs to organizational pool management. By default, this is enabled in App Store Connect. Your backend must handle subscription status checks for users who have been granted access via a managed device profile rather than a standard one-to-one purchase flow.To manage these programmatically, use the App Store Connect API to verify organizational entitlements. Your entitlement validation logic should now anticipate group-based seat counts:
CONSOLE // JSON
SYNTAX_CHECK: OK
// Example: Validating Entitlement Object
{
"subscription_type": "multiseat_group",
"total_seats_allocated": 50,
"active_seats": 32,
"managed_by": "business_id_placeholder"
}
Action Plan for Developers & Businesses
- Audit Existing Entitlements: Review your current subscription verification logic to ensure it supports organizational metadata received via the StoreKit transaction.
- Configure Sandbox: Beginning October 28, 2026, test group seat workflows within your Sandbox environment to simulate admin-level seat assignment.
- Toggle Availability: Verify your current App Store Connect settings. If your infrastructure isn't ready for bulk provisioning, toggle the multiseat availability flag to off until your back-end handles seat-pooling.
